Veedersburg — Funeral services for Arthur W. Holmes, age 85, a retired Veedersburg businessman, who died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 29, after a heart attack in the downtown area, were held Saturday, Aug. 31, at 2:30 p.m. at the Parham Funeral Home. The Rev. James Dyson officiated. Burial was in the Rockfield Cemetery. Mr. Holmes had been in ill health the past year. Born Dec. 2, 1877, in Thorntown he was a son of Joseph and Melissa Bartlett Holmes. He had resided in Veedersburg 40 years and prior to that resided in Wingate. He was manager of the Fountain Produce Co. for 45 years before retiring 15 years ago. Mr. Holmes was married Oct. 16, 1933, to Maude Voorhees who survives. He was a member of the Thorntown Baptist Church. Mr. Holmes was a former member of the Masonic and Knights of Pythias Lodges of Veedersburg. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Naomi Kingan and Mrs. Maxine Cocherton both of Indianapolis and two nephews. He was the last survivor of his family. --typed by Walt W
